The name of Lee Child is now firmly established in the action and mystery literature genre and his best-known creation Jack Reacher has now become one to the most bankable movie characters at the box office. But much do we know about the British writer behind this hugely successful franchise? Here are a few facts you may not know about Lee Child:
1. He was born in Coventry in England in 1954.
2. His real name is actually James D Grant. He assumed the pen name Lee Child as party of a family joke.
3. He previously worked as a TV director with Granada Television in Manchester, England. He began writing novels on the day he was made redundant from his job and now starts every new book on the anniversary of that date.
4. His first novel was Killing Floor and was first published in 1997. He won two awards for this book – The Barry Award for best debut novel and The Anthony Award, which recognizes excellence in mystery writing.
5. He is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and was elected president of the group in 2009.
6. He is a huge soccer fan and his favorite team are Aston Villa who are based in Birmingham, England. He has been known to weave some of the names of Aston Villa players into some of his novels.
7. He has written 23 novels to date, with many of his Jack Reacher books alternating between the first and third-person viewpoint.
